A line up of delicious spud classics... Hang on, what was that last one?

We've been dabbling in more food content creation lately - and it's been scrumptious. Ben Gibbons, Master of the City of Oxford Guild of Chefs (and star of our fabulous film promoting the even more fabulous OxFarmToFork initiative) asked us to make a short film showcasing the Guild's first ever OxFood Hero competition.

The premise of the competition: chefs who've been working in the industry for 4+ years compete to be crowned OxFood Hero by legendary chef Pierre Koffmann. The challenge - who can make the most spectacular dish with a humble potato as the star of the show? Watch the video at the top of this page for a taste of the spud-centred contest.

The collaboration in action:

Competition lead-up:

  • Meet with Ben to find out who the film is for, why he wants to make it, and what he hopes to achieve
  • Script a snappy intro for Ben and Pierre to deliver on the day
  • Plan shoot (hire film gear, prep interviews, storyboard creative)

Competition day:

  • Capture as much b-roll and as many photos as possible without getting in the way of the contestants (and without getting burned). Pop over to the Junior Chef competition happening next door and grab a few snaps there too
  • When they're not in the midst of the action, grab Ben and Pierre to film their scripted intro and short interviews about the competition
  • While the tasting and judging is happening, grab the contestants to film short interviews
  • Taste the entries (essential part of the job)

Post-capture:

  • Go through all the interviews and create a script (Sarah)
  • Go through all the footage and start making the timeline (Jake)
  • Find music, add motion graphics, tweak the colours, add subtitles, go big on potatoes
  • Edit photos
  • Deliver all the content to happy customers
  • Spread the word about the awesome Guild and the opportunities they're creating for chefs

Thoughts on the final output:

"Jake and Sarah at Stone Barrell are very easy to work with. Great communication in understanding what you as the client are after, they have a clear vision of what to achieve, also extremely laid back and good fun to be around. I am so happy with how they captured the energy of a kitchen in this project. It is fast paced and exciting with fun background music and amazing videography skills, completely on trend and I know will achieve it’s purpose of showcasing the trade of a chef. Could not recommend them enough, they are now the Guild of Chefs go to film crew." ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Ben, Master of the Oxford Guild of Chefs

Enough said. We (s)mashed it.

With thanks to The Food Heroes for sponsoring this project.
